Iron on adhesive is applied on the reverse side of the patch, making it shiny. It does not stick until heat is applied.
Sew on patches do not have anything applied on the back. The twill is bare and ready to be sewn.
Hook side Velcro:
The hook side or the rough side of the Velcro is applied to the back of the patch. This is only for patches which will be applied to areas with the loop side already in place.
Loop side Velcro:
The loop side or the soft side of the Velcro is applied to the back of the patch. This is only for patches which will be applied to areas with the hook side already in place.
Double sided Velcro:
The hook side of the Velcro is attached to the back of the patch and the loop side comes with it. The loop side then needs to be sewn onto the area where the patch will be applied.
The edges of the patch are stitched using the embroidery machine and then cut with hot knife to seal and protect the edge from fraying. It creates a thinner and flatter border. This is recommended for patches with complicated shapes.
The edges of the patch are wrapped with raised stitching using an overlocking machine. It creates a thick and rounded border that is best for plain, symmetrically shaped patches.
The edges are cut using a laser machine. There are no stitches around the edge of the patch, only the twill. This will likely fray after a long time.
